“It was snowing … it was always snowing at Christmas … I can never remember whether it snowed for six days and six nights when I was twelve, or whether it snowed for twelve days and twelve nights when I was six.”
The prose of Welsh poet Dylan Thomas rings in our ears 70 years after he recorded it in 1952. We imagine all the delightful, comical characters of his little seaside town, as the young Thomas chases cats, puts out fires with snowballs, and goes carolling to a dark, spooky house.
Our special guest, celebrated actor Adrian Hough, will recreate Thomas’ reading of ‘A Child’s Christmas in Wales’ for concerts in Nanaimo and Parksville. Malaspina Choir and the Sinclair Singers will intersperse the readings with carols – your favourites such as: Ding, dong merrily on high; O little town of Bethlehem; God rest ye merry, gentlemen; and See amid the winter’s snow. The audience will be encouraged to sing along for some of the carols.
Stefanie Unger will be joining us on piano for both performances.
This concert is a perfect event for families with children.
