A Port Theatre Discovery Series Presentation
Ty Koch is a 24-year-old singer from Vancouver Island, and now based in Vancouver, who performs a variety of musical genres including musical theatre favourites, Classical art song, crooner tunes, popular ballads, original songs with a blues vibe, and vintage rock & roll! He began songwriting at the age 17 performing with his friends. Over the last few years, Ty has been working with several artists performing and recording at theatres, local clubs, and festivals including the Nanaimo Big Band Festival and on two RiseUP TV episodes which can be viewed on Roku TV. Ty has recorded and released two songs: Go to War and Waiting to Be Found.
Ty draws inspiration from a number of artists and styles. Two artists that have had especially impactful influences on his music are Gary Clark Jr. and Jeff Buckley. Gary Clark Jr.’s soulful, blues-infused guitar style is something that Ty has worked hard to emulate in his own study of the instrument. Jeff Buckley’s impressive ability to perform across a wide vocal range is something Ty matches in his own music. With influences from both, and countless other performers, Ty’s worked to develop his own blues-influenced rock style for his original music that accentuates his vocal range.
