TheatreOne offers a unique experience each year with its Emerging Voices series.
New works from Canadian playwrights are submitted to our Artistic Associate, Jessica Schacht. She then selects three to work on with the playwrights, culminating in an intensive workshop and public reading hosted in the Port Theatre Lobby.
It is a rare platform for input and a great opportunity to see their work performed. For theatre lovers, it is a wonderful chance to both engage in the creative process and enjoy a stimulating and entertaining evening of theatre.
Each performance is by donation at the door.
Break Horizons by Kim Senklip Harvey
April 12th, 7:30pm
Break Horizons is a futurist story about 5 Indigenous women living in a minimum-security prison. Through music, dance, and story that is not to be missed—mixed with the indestructible force of Indigenous love—we are pulled into their world where they battle persecution from the Crown.
About the Playwright: Kim Senklip Harvey is a proud Syilx and Tsilhqot’in and an Indigenous theorist, a cultural evolutionist, and a Governor-General award-winning storyteller whose work focuses on igniting Indigenous power by creating comedic and joy-centered narratives that nourish her people’s spirits. All her work is created out of respect for her Ancestors and for the future generations to whom so much is owed.
